30 September 2020: With the new 3WA series, Siemens Smart Infrastructure is updating its Sentron portfolio of air circuit breakers. At the same time, the new 3WA circuit breakers meet all low-voltage power distribution requirements in digital environments. They support software-based planning and engineering, digital testing and monitoring, and seamless integration in automation and IoT systems. For the first time, upgrades can be completed 100 percent digitally. Users simply download new features from the Internet and add them using an app.

Siemens circuit breakers are designed for 30,000 operating cycles while requiring only one inspection per year. With a potential service life in excess of 100 years, their practical life averages approximately 10 years.

Mitsubishi Electric Achieves Successful Fault Current Interruption using 160kV DC Circuit Breaker

TOKYO, October 10, 2019 – Mitsubishi Electric Corporation (TOKYO: 6503) announced that its 160kV mechanical HVDC* circuit breaker (mechanical DCCB) prototype has successfully interrupted the peak current of 16kA that reproduces a fault in a real system within 7 milliseconds: a testing requirement specified in PROMOTioN** project. The testing was conducted as part of the EU-funded research project PROMOTioN at the KEMA high power laboratories of DNV-GL, an international testing and certification service based in The Netherlands.

Following the successful test, Mitsubishi Electric is now proceeding commercialization of the DCCB. The proven reliability of its components is expected to help to develop stable, reliable and economical dc grid.

Developed in Italy at ABB’s Bergamo Electrification business R&D Centre, the ABB breaker concept is the first of its kind to use a patented insulated gate-commutated transistor (IGCT) semiconductor technology. This technological breakthrough is combined with new embedded predictive power management software, protection algorithms and higher levels of connectivity.
