A massive hole is “spewing” a stream of solar particles into space, and experts warn Earth could align with it in the coming days. The hole is currently pointing away from our planet, but as Earth orbits the Sun the gap will soon face towards us. The hole is known as a a coronal hole – a hole in the Sun’s upper atmosphere – which are relatively common and experts believe it could cause auroras in the upper reaches of the northern hemisphere – known as northern lights or aurora borealis – on August 1.
